This depends on the PCV valve location. We suggest installing a PCV catch can on any/all models; this is referred to as the dirty side of the engine. On the “clean side,” we typically only recommend those for vehicles that see extreme use, such as road course racing.
Check and drain your oil separator every 1,000–3,500 miles, depending on driving conditions and engine type. Cold climates or heavy use may require more frequent checks.
A properly installed oil separator should not affect your factory warranty or emissions equipment. Under the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act, warranty coverage can only be denied if the separator causes a problem. With that said if you are concerned, you should check with your local service department prior to installation.
Also, most of the J&L Oil Separator kits don’t permanently modify the engine and are easily removed for servicing. Save your factory PCV line!
